In a region that is embracing the game, the launch of the Mukono T20 League will further deepen the reach of the game.
The Mukono T20 Cup will feature six teams, namely Kayunga Titans, Lugazi Trekkers, Mukono Development, Njeru Warriors, Buvuma Sailors and Buikwe Gladiators.
The tournament will feature players from the emerging teams of Cricket Uganda but with the local talent making up 80% of the composition of the teams.
The games will be played on a round robin format with the top two sides qualifying for the finals. The games will all be played at the Florida Oval off Katosi Road.
All the action will have a live stream so that fans can be able to follow the action. At the launch of the tournament, the Chairman of Mukono Cricket Community, Simon Kintu, said;
We are happy to shake off the ice and launch an annual tournament we’ve long envisioned. As a community committed to growing the game, this event offers people from Nkokonjeru, Ziba, Nnunga, Ngogwe, and Kalagala not only entertainment, but a chance to appreciate and embrace cricket.
The Mukono T20 Cup is one of the regional leagues that is a collaboration between Cricket Uganda and local communities in a bid to spread the game. The purpose is to decentralise the game so that the game can reach as many people as possible outside of Kampala.
