Of late, it has been a busy season at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

From a number of in-house workshops, UCAA has also held different sports events in honour of the annual Aviation Week.

From chess, basketball to golf, UCAA also organized a tranquil Netball Gala at the DAS Handling playgrounds, overlooking the Entebbe International Airport.

A total of eight teams took part in the day-long gala officially opened by Vianney Mpuugu Luggya, the UCAA’s Public Affairs Manager.

“Sports like Netball help the Aviation fraternity to further strengthen bonds with the community in an informal setting away from the office environment. Netball has been one of the sports activities as we celebrate the Aviation week. The others were basketball, chess and golf,” Luggya stated.

For starters, the Aviation Week is celebrated globally every first week of December, commemorating the signing of the Chicago Convention of 1944, a historic agreement that established ICAO and shaped modern international aviation.

Since its first celebration in 1994, the week has become a tradition among ICAO member states, including Uganda.

In the netball proper, eight teams took part in the interesting gala, won by UCAA Management.

UCAA management overcame the UCAA operations 17-15 thanks to the brave performance of goal shooter Amanda Nyende, Waldah Bako (GA), Brenda Nassozi (C), Mariam Nabachwa (WA), Fauza Tumuhaise (WD) and Henry Mukenye (GK).

The final result was sweet revenge as the UCAA operations had triumphed 21-14 during the B duel.

Uganda Airlines and Virus Netball Tone progressed from Group A, as UCAA management and UCAA operations surged from Group B.
