Overview:
Olive Birungi Lumonya, the deputy executive director at Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) led a strong delegation from the authority at the 19th hole celebrations. Besides UCAA, the other partners who joined resources for a successful tournament included Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), Trackers Safari Lodges, Crown Beverages Limited, Prudential Insurance, Pro Golfers Masters (PGM), among others.
2025 UCCA Seniors Golf Championship:
Overall winners:
- Men: John Paul Waigo – 136 Nett
- Ladies: Edrae Kagombe – 129 Nett
Gross category:
- Men: John Muchiri – 162 Nett
- Ladies: Dr Katy Kabenge – 175 Nett
Veteran golfers John Paul Waigo and Edrae Kagombe smiled on the podium as the overall men and ladies respective winners during the 2025 Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Seniors golf open championship at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club.

Over 36 grueling holes of action, Waigo amassed 136 nett whilst Kagombe returned 129 nett.
“The victory is humbling” Waigo remarked as he picked up his trophy.

“I am excited to win the championship which has come with effort of training” he added.
Kagombe on the other hand was full of praise for the supportive partner Charles Kagombe.
“This victory is collective effort and support from my partner. I salute him” Kagombe, a member of Mbarara Sports Club hinted.

Other top performers:
In the gross category; John Muchiri won for the men with 162 gross whilst Dr. Katty Kabenge had 175 gross.


Kaka Matama was winner in the 75 years plus cluster with 141 nett, ahead of Ambrose Akandonda (144 nett) and Eldad Mwangusya (149 nett).
The silver category (65 to 74 years) was claimed by William Bizibu (138 nett), Denis Tindyebwa (141 nett) and Steven Katwiremu (143 nett).
Bronze category (55 to 64 years) had South African Eric Du Plesis triumph with 137 nett; Bernard Amwine (138 nett) and Robert Lim Lim (139 nett).

65 years plus (Gold):
Regina Ddamulira came top in the 65 years plus age group with 143 nett, ahead of Jennifer Opio (144 nett) and Ruth Ssali (150 nett).
55-64 years (Silver):
In the 55-64 years pool, Caroline Karungi came top with 140 nett. Maria Ocheng (149 nett) and Rose Azuba (156 nett) followed suit.



Side-bets (seniors):
Elijah Lutu and Grace Mayian won the men and ladies respective longest drive contests.
Luttu also won the nearest to the pin while Edrae Kagombe took the nearest to the pin ladies.

“We are humbled as UCAA to associate with the seniors golfing association, for now ten years. We remain committed to be part for years. This golf tournament is part of the sports activities that we sponsor as we celebrate the aviation week. Chess, Basketball and Netball are the others” Lumonya asserted.

The Seniors Open is an annual event organized by the Uganda Seniors Golf Association (USGA) led by current chairman David Balaka.
USGA has also organized regional events in the different corners of the country; Eastern, Northern, Western and Central for its senior members with the seniors open in Kampala being the biggest.
