Algeria secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) encounter at Complexe Sportif Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan on Wednesday.
Riyad Mahrez was twice on target as the Desert Foxes secured maximum points against the 10-man Sudan.
In under two minutes, Mahrez was set up by Hicham Boudaoui before he curled into the bottom left corner to give Algeria an early lead.
Sudan suffered a big blow after they were reduced to 10 men after Salaheldin Al Hassan was shown a second red card in the 39th minute.
On top of the hour, Mahrez doubled Algeria’s lead with a simple but delightful finish. Mohamed Amoura set up Mahrez with a trivela pass that beat Sudan’s backline.
Ibrahim Maza put the icing on the cake in the 85th minute with a simple effort that found the back of the net, even though the ball was not struck perfectly.
The Desert Foxes started the campaign with a perfect outing as they scored three goals and bagged as many points on the day.
