The continental governing body has once again cracked the whip, this time landing a heavy blow on Samuel Eto’o with a $20,000 (UGX 71,248,740) fine and a four-match suspension.
The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president was sanctioned following a significant disciplinary breach during the 2025 AFCON quarterfinals.
According to reports from journalist Micky Jnr, Eto’o became furious over the officiating during Cameroon’s defeat to Morocco, expressing his anger openly in the presence of CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and other high-ranking FIFA dignitaries.
The outburst left CAF with little choice but to take firm action against one of the continent’s most decorated figures.
While the $20,000 fine serves as a sharp financial reprimand, the four-match ban sends a much stronger message regarding the conduct expected of a leader of his calibre.
The incident highlights the ongoing tension between Eto’o’s identity as a passionate icon of the game and his formal responsibilities as a top-tier administrator.
Since assuming office, Eto’o has established himself as a hands-on leader. However, this latest sanction underscores the immense weight of responsibility that comes with his executive position.
At the time of reporting, FECAFOOT has yet to confirm whether they intend to appeal the fine or the match suspension.
