This is one nation unified by this beautiful game that has brought a sense of belonging, identity and fostered national unity to the entire country.

Huge investment from the Kingdom, driven by a patriotic, passionate and loyal citizenry, the Royal Kingdom of Morocco has indeed set the lightening like pace.

State of art sports infrastructure has been put in place with 9 venues across six cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, Marakkech, Agandir and Tanger.

There are tranquil confines created, affluent transport means (air, trains, cars and buses), good accommodation facilities and an enviable smiling face from every resident.

The Royal Kingdom of Morocco has organized a great 35th edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship, one that will go down in the annals of history for the rich African football.

Since day one of the championship on 21st December 2025, one could smell the sweet aroma of good tidings.

Of course, there was a lot of underground work done prior to and the superb organizing team takes the due credit and their flowers.

Right from the Morocco ministry of national education, pre-school and sports, football federation dockets, ministry of tourism, handicrafts, social and solidarity economy, ministry of youth, culture and communication & other associated parties, there were deliberate plans and gallant efforts undertaken to stage such a magnificent championship.

The planning team to lay out strategies and missions to be carried out also deserves a standing ovation.

The tournament proper has also had a couple of unsung heroes and heroines who execute duties behind the scenes to ensure smooth operations of work tasks.

The technical personnel and CAF support staff, volunteers (across various sections), media, safety & security (intelligence, policemen & women, stewards), flag bearers, ball boys, cleaners, protocol, ticketing, transport (drivers, pilots, guides), leisure & hospitality experts, Information system and technology experts as well as others all have done a collective responsibility to ensure smooth flow of work at hand.

Virtually, these are personalities many of whom have had limited hours of sleep and rest, burnt mega calories and sacrificed everything in thy midst all in the name of ensuring dots are joined together for the better operation.

To the lay men, typical match days seemed so easy to maneuver but it actually took hours of playing and loads of work to make it through.

We salute the different unsung heroes and heroines in the respective departments who have diligently put their bodies to the line for a successful championship.

This is one that has set the trend and elevated contemporary sports competitions prior to the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2030, that the Kingdom of Morocco will co-host with Spain.

There are two matches to wind down this championship with Nigeria tussling Egypt during the bronze medal match in Casablanca city on Saturday whilst hosts Morocco shall face Senegal in the grand finale at the gigantic Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat city on Sunday night.

Still, the backroom staff remains fully in force to ensure a very successful grand befitting climax.

The baton is now handed over from Morocco to East Africa PAMOJA come 2027.
