The first round of Group D of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers is just two weeks away.

The four-team group consisting of Egypt, Angola, Mali, and Uganda will take place at the Borg Al Arab Sports Hall in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria from February 26 to March 1.

From the Ugandan perspective, the qualifying window will more likely than not be a disaster for the Silverbacks.

Barely two weeks to the tournament, the only development round the team has been the appointment of a new head coach.

According to reliable sources, official communication with clubs to release players for the window had not been made as of last week and neither had players been sent invitations to be part of the Silverbacks.

Having inadequate preparations for the men’s national team has neraly become normal over thepast few years, and it has reflected in the performance, case in point last year’s AfroBasket.

Going up against the AfroBasket champions, Angola, and ever-ready Zonal rivals Egypt and Mali, the Silverbacks stand no chance in Alexandria.
