Kira Road Police Arena sets the stage for a defining moment in the season as Police FC welcomes a surging SC Villa in a fixture that carries heavy implications for both the top and middle of the table.
For the Cops, this isn’t just another matchday. It’s a mission to reclaim an identity that took them to the upper echelons of the league earlier this season.
Currently sitting 6th on the log with 32 points from 19 games, Police FC find themselves in their first real turbulent patch of the campaign.
With two losses and a draw in their last three outings, the early-season swagger has been replaced by a test of character. However, forward Charles Bbaale is adamant that the slump is purely temporary.
“We have prepared for the game well. We need a win to end the poor run,” Bbaale told the club media.
“Yes, sometimes the results are bad, but you don’t have to lose hope. At this moment, we need to remember that we are the same players who won games in the opening round, so we need to keep positive.”
SC Villa arrives as a side struggling to keep in the hunt for the trophy, bringing the intense pressure that comes with title aspirations.
While the Joogo’s pedigree is undisputed, Bbaale insists the Cops have the tactical blueprint to nullify the visitors.
“SC Villa is a big club, but we know how to manage them,” Bbaale added. “I expect a good game because we are going to face a side that is competing for the trophy. We need to end the poor run by beating SC Villa so that we can start a positive momentum.”
After picking up just one point from a possible nine, the focus in the Cops’ camp is on memory. The coaching staff is banking on the players’ ability to tap into the form that saw them dominate the opening round.
All eyes will be on Charles Bbaale to lead the line against his former pay masters. His confidence suggests a player ready to shoulder the burden of ending the team’s goal-scoring drought.
SC Villa may be chasing silverware, but Police FC is fighting for their pride and a spot back in the top sides’ conversation. If the Cops can translate Bbaale’s positivity into an early goal, the Arena could witness the most significant momentum shift of the season.
In the same breath, SC Villa has not won in their previous two games. Their game against Calvary was abandoned while they shared spoils with Express in the Kampala derby.
