Beyond the boardroom, Rajiv Ruparelia was a committed rally driver and a passionate advocate for the growth of motorsport in Uganda, while also maintaining a strong footprint in charitable initiatives.
Sunday, 3rd May 2026 marked exactly a year since business mogul, rally enthusiast and philanthropist Rajiv Ruparelia died.
The street racers, joined by family members, friends and the general public unified as a block to celebrate the life of an icon, a legend and a special character whose influence cut across business, sport, and charity (philanthropy).
The day commenced with commemorative tasks that included charity outreach at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where the Ruparelia family led a blood donation drive and also offered plastic legs.
The participants then embark on a memorial procession from RR Pearl Tower (along Yusuf Lule Road), traversing Jinja Road, Entebbe Road, and Nsambya before proceeding to Busabala roundabout—the site of the fatal accident—for a floral tribute.

The day culminated in prayers and a candlelight vigil at Speke Resort Munyonyo, offering a moment of reflection for all those touched by his life.
Businessman Sudir Ruparelia and wife were joined by other family members during the candle-lighting event.
Food and drinks of all nature were served in abundance as the different speakers gave moving testimonies.
“Rajiv was more than a friend to many of us. He loved business, people and motorsport” Stuart Kimera, chairman of the local organizing committee stated before he broke down into tears.
Ministers Ruth Nankabirwa (Energy) and Balam Barugahare (Youth and Children) represented the central Government.

Designed as both a tribute and a continuation of his values, the anniversary programme blended remembrance with community outreach, underscoring a legacy defined as much by compassion as by ambition.
Rajiv died on May 3, 2025, following a car accident at Busabala roundabout, was the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group—one of Uganda’s largest conglomerates founded by his father, Sudhir Ruparelia.

Kakaire Charles, president of the Street Racers Club Uganda lauded the street racers, rally drivers and other lovers of the sport the collective team spirit.
“I thank the rally fraternity for the unity showed. This is a collective reaffirmation of Rajiv’s ethos—service, passion, and community impact. We shall celebrate this year after year” Kakaire stated.

For starters, Rajiv commenced his Rally debut in May 2019 at the Enduro Autocross championship in the Zion Estates (Ssisa).
He then raced at the Kayunga and Kapeeka Autocross rallies, Kalangala rally, Mbarara rally and Kabalega rally.
