Team Uganda delivered another impressive performance on Saturday at the 17th African Aquatics Swimming Championships in Oran, Algeria, as the continental competition heads into its final day tomorrow.

The championships, which began on May 5, have seen Uganda register some of its strongest performances on the African stage, highlighted by the outstanding exploits of Gloria Anna Muzito, who has so far won four medals for the country — one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Saturday’s evening finals once again showcased Uganda’s growing competitiveness in sprint events.

Fresh from her earlier medal-winning performances during the week, Muzito added another major statement in the women’s 50m freestyle final, storming to victory in a time of 25.35 seconds to finish ahead of Kenya’s Sara Mose and South Africa’s Rachel Louise Groepes.

Uganda also had representation in the girls’ 50m freestyle final, where Tara Ann Mary Kisawuzi Naluwoza finished seventh in a competitive field after clocking 27.81 seconds.

In the men’s 50m freestyle final, Tendo Mukalazi posted a strong swim of 23.39 seconds to place seventh in Africa among the senior men, in a race won by Egypt’s Abdelrahman Sameh.

Across the week, Uganda’s swimmers have continued to demonstrate progress and resilience against some of the continent’s elite programs from Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, and Zimbabwe.

With one day left before the championships conclude, Uganda’s medal tally stands at four â€” two golds, one silver, and one bronze — all won by Gloria Muzito, whose performance has been one of the standout stories of the competition for Team Uganda.
