Mvara SS head coach Samson Ceasor Okhuti has set his target at the ongoing USSSA U20 Boys Football Championship in Lira City.
The former Uganda Cranes striker who turned coach is proud of the performance from his charges so far, winning their opening two games in Group J thus advancing to the round of 32 with a game to spare.
Okhuti could not hide his delight after Mvara came from a goal down to edge Iganga Parents on Tuesday evening.
“ I’m so proud of the boys for the performance so far. Two games, two wins. We came as underdogs in the group but we have done well so far especially against Iganga Paremts where we needed to come from a goal down,” he said.
David Mugerwa had given Iganga Parents the lead but a spirited display saw Mvara stage a comeback with goals coming from Eric Alafi Lumago and Edgar Omaki.
With progress to the next stage guaranteed, Okhuti believes they still have to take care of their final group game against Bristol SS and top group J.
“Before we even think of the knockout stage, we still have to play Bristol SS in the final group game on Thursday and we want to win in order to top the group because that can help in getting a fair opponent at the next stage.”
Asked about what his target is at this year’s Championship, the former KCCA, Express, Vipers and Onduparaka player stated that he wants to do better than last year where they ended at the round of 32.
“We need to improve on our position from last year where we managed to reach the round of 32, this time if we can go up to the round of 16 and beyond, that will be good for us.” Okhuti indicated.
At the round of 32, Mvara is likely to face either Bukedea Comprehensive School -South or Numasa Secondary School who have both qualified but will face off on Thursday to determine who tops Group I.
