The stage for the 2026 USSSA U20 Boys Football Championship final is set and the battle for supremacy will be between two rivals in Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College, both from Teso region.
On Monday, the two schools confirmed their slots into the coveted final with Bukedea Comprehensive School -South overcoming Kyadondo SS 1-0 courtesy of Patrick Ssenku’s goal.
On the other hand, Amus College won a tight contest against record Champions St. Mary’s Boarding School, Kitende 4-1 on penalties after normal time had ended goalless.
With the finalists known, Kawowo Sports looks at the journey of Bukedea Comprehensive School at this year’s tournament.
Under the stewardship of coach Ronald Ssali, the school made their intentions clear by sweeping aside opponents in the group phase.
Bukedea Comprehensive School- South began the campaign with a convincing 4-1 win over PP Newton High School from Gulu. Simon Wanyama and Bob Atendele scored a brace each.
In the next game, Bukedea was up against the hosts Lira Town College and in front of their fans, they were humbled to a 2-0 defeat. Akbar Godi Musa and Simon Wanyama were on target for Bukedea Comprehensive School.
The school wrapped up group business with a 3-1 win over NUMASA to finish top of Group I on nine points. Simon Wanyama (brace) and Bob Atendele scored for Bukedea.
Knockout Phase
At the round of 32, Bukedea Comprehensive School swept aside debutants Bristol SS who put up a resilient performance especially in the first half before the former showed their might.
Once again, Simon Wanyama was on the scoresheet this time bagging a brace while midfielder Wycliffe Ssentongo got the other goal.
On, they marched and at the round of 16, Bukedea Comprehensive had to dig deep to overcome Greenlight Islamic School from Nansana. Defender Akbar Godi Musa scored the all-important goal.
In the quarterfinals, Bukedea needed a penalty shootout to progress after normal time had ended in a one-all draw. Simon Wanyama had given Bukedea the lead but Masaka levelled matters late on through Isaac Kafuma.
In the tense penalties, Bukedea Comprehensive School South goalkeeper Tonny Katangalo shone with two saves, denying Ali Ssemakula and Isaac Kintu while Pius Ekusai converted his.
Simon Wanyama, Musa Godi, Bob Atendele and Patrick Senkusu were on target for Bukedea Comprehensive School South.
In today’s semifinal contest against arguably the best playing team of the tournament, Bukedea Comprehensive School were up to the task and indeed walked away the winners.
Patrick Senkusu’s 55th minute goal was enough to send Bukedea to their first ever final.
The final against Amus College School is slated for Tuesday, 19 May at Lira Town College Playground.
