The decisive leg in the Caf Champions League final is on this Sunday when FAR Rabat host Mamelodi Sundowns at the Stade Prince Moulay in Rabat.

The South Africans, home to Ugandan international Denis Onyango lead 1-0 from the first leg thanks to Aubrey Modiba goal from a sumptuous free kick in Pretoria seven days ago.

The 2016 winners, playing in their second final in a row need to avoid defeat to clinch their second title but face an uphill task against a determined side that have not lost a home game in more than a year.

AS FAR are chasing a first Champions League title since 1985 and will lean heavily on a formidable home record in continental competition.

“It’s very difficult when Sundowns get space, they are one of the best teams of this continent,” AS FAR coach Alexandre Santos said.

“We kept the (first leg) result to 1-0, and in the end the most important thing is we play at home and fight until the end, that’s our intention,” added Santos.

For Miguel Cardoso, the confidence lies in his team’s experience and resilience

“It’s my third (TotalEnergies CAF Champions League) final in a row, and it’s the first time I go into the second leg with a goal advantage, and all three of them were played away,” Cardoso said.

“First match I drew for Esperance with Al Ahly. Second one we drew 1-1 with Pyramids FC, and this time we have the privilege to be one goal ahead, but let’s see if it’s enough or not. We will fight to make it enough,” Cardoso said.

The only meeting between the two sides in Rabat ended in a 1-1 draw in 2024 group stages with Iqram Rayners scoring for the visiting Brazilians while Mohamed Hrimat got the equaliser for the Moroccan army side.
