David “Colgate” Owori is the current captain at Sports Club Villa, arguably Uganda’s most successful football entity with 17 national league and 9 Uganda Cup titles to proudly boast of.
Owori, a roving right back at the Jogoos yearns to etch his name in the enviable history books of the club as the leader of the ship to sail the club to the 10th Uganda Cup triumph, roughly 11 years since their last success in the competition.
“We are hungry for success. This is the only trophy at our disposal now that the league is off our hands.” Owori told the media during the official pre-match press conference held at Kati-Kati Restaurant along Lugogo By-Pass on Thursday.

“The mood of the players in the camp is very good. We do not underrate Kitara and ready to give everything in the final to win it” he added.
Upon Federation of Uganda Football Association’s change of the venue for the final from FUFA Stadium Kadiba to the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Owori remained upbeat.
“As the players, we have been ready to play anywhere whether at Kadiba or anywhere. We are always ready” he commented.
He highlighted the team chemistry and competitive unison as a group that they have had enroute to the final.
“We have reached the final as a team. This was entirely a team effort. The team has been training very well and prepared for the final.” He pointed.
Sports Club Villa head coach Zeljko Kovacevic predicted a tough final where the opposition is also good and equal to the task at hand.

“We expect a difficult game but shall play with confidence. The approach will be different from the last games; we shall go for it. The strength of the opponent (Kitara) is experience with good players. We are playing a very good team with experience and coach (Wasswa Bbosa). We anticipate a very difficult game but we shall work hard.We shall prepare two or three options in every department coming to the final. Depending on the opponent, we shall select the players who will suit the final as we need it at all costs. The playing surface will not matter. The opponent is the same.” The Serbian remarked.
The Jogoos eye the 10th title after success in 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2009 and the last one in 2015.
Perhaps, Kitara Football Club head coach Wasswa Bbosa remains optimistic.

“We shall play as a team in this final. We have a different approach for every game we have played. I believe the best prepared team will carry the day.” Bbosa hinted.
“ We have conceded just one goal and scored 13 goals. We are determined to keep the chase. We have prepared very well. Every team that reaches the final anticipates victory, just like we do” Bbosa added.
Kitara targets their second triumph in the Uganda Cup after the success in the tourney during the 2023-2024 edition.
