Vipers SC Midfielder Abdu Karim Watambala was on Friday named the Most Valuable Player of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season.
In an awards gala organized at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala, Watambala beat a field of four other players to take the coveted crown.
The other nominees in the category included SC Villa’s duo Frank Ssebufu and Raymond Barasa Mangoli, Ivan Ahimbisibwe (KCCA FC) and Ambrose Kigozi (Entebbe UPPC).
Watambala had a remarkable campaign, guiding the Venoms to the League title. He scored twelve goals and registered four assists in the process.
The industrous midfielder stepped up his performance, taking on the mantle when Allan Okello left to join Young Africans in Tanzania.
The coaches at Vipers opted to push Watambala from number eight to ten and the move paid off dividends with the midfielder being more productive in front of goal.
Watambala was also included in the Best XI of the 2025/26 season. He becomes the latest Vipers player to win the accolade, following in the footsteps of Milton Karisa, Ceasar Manzoki, Farouk Miya etc.
