Following a 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Sweden, Tunisia part ways with head coach Sabri Lamouchi.

The French born coach replaced Sami Trabelsi in January after the Carthage Eagles were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations by Mali.

Lamouchi has only managed one competitive match but overall, coached five matches – lost three, won one and drew as many.

However, Lamouchi is not the first manager to lose a job during the world cup campaign as Ismael Kiyonga brings you the others sacked during the global showpiece.

Andy Beattie [Scotland] 1954

Unlike the rest, Beattie resigned his job during the 1954 World Cup hosted in Switzerland.

He had spent several months of his reign discontent with the Scottish FA over some player selection but after a 1-0 loss to Austria in the opening match, he quit.

Scotland then lost 7-0 to Uruguay in their next match to bow out of the tournament.

Carlos Alberto Parreira [Saudi Arabia] 1998

In 1998, Saudi Arabia became the first nation to get knocked out of France 98’ and that cost Brazilian legend Carlos Alberto Parreira.

The 1994 world cup winning coach lost 1-0 to Denmark and a 4-0 against France.

The Saudis did rally to draw their final group game (2-2 versus South Africa) but it was very much a case of too little, too late.

Raymond Domenech [France], 2010

The French man was sacked following a dressing row with most of his players including Nicholas Anelka who left camp as well as Patrice Evra.

France lost 2-0 to Mexico and then 2-1 to South Africa and Domenech was dismissed.

Henryk Kasperczak [Tunisia], 1998

Having guided Tunisia to the final of the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations, Kasperczak went into the World Cup popular.

However, Tunisia lost their opening two group-stage games versus England and Colombia and he was dismissed before the final group game against Romania which ended 1-1.

Cha Bum-Kun [South Korea], 1998

South Korea were defeated 5-0 by Netherlands and Cha Bum-Kun was replaced by his assistant Kim Pyung-seok, who did at least manage to salvage a draw against Belgium in Korea’s final game, despite them already being out of the tournament.

Julen Lopetegui [Spain], 2018

Just two days before he took charge of Spain’s first game against Portugal, Lopetegui, now manager of Qatar was dismissed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

His sacking was majorly based on Lopetegui accepting to join Real Madrid which they saw as divided attention and Fernando Hierro took over.

Under Hierro, Spain finished top of their group by the finest of margins but came unstuck against hosts Russia in the round of 16, ultimately suffering a premature exit after losing on penalties in Moscow.
