Following a narrow 83-86 defeat to rivals Rwanda in their opening warm-up scrimmage, Uganda Silverbacks captain Robinson Opong has urged fans and analysts not to panic.

Despite the scoreboard, the veteran sharpshooter views the tight encounter as a crucial step in the team’s preparation.

The Silverbacks started the game visibly rusty, struggling to find their rhythm early on against a sharp Rwandan side.

However, a spirited second-half resurgence saw Uganda iron out their initial wrinkles, transforming a sloppy start into a highly competitive, down-to-the-wire finish.

Speaking after the friendly game, Opong emphasised that these preparatory exhibition games are designed exactly for moments like this to highlight areas of vulnerability before the official tournament begins.

”It was an interesting game. We came in, and it was our first scrimmage. We had a lot of mistakes as a team, but you know, that’s what these games are for.”

“They really showcase your talents and your strength, but at the same time, they expose your weaknesses. So it’s nothing to be alarmed about.”

Opong acknowledged the slow start but was quick to praise the squad’s adaptability as the game progressed.
