World Cup debutants Cape Verde are in line to make history but must overcome Saudi Arabia in their final group H game at the Houston stadium on Friday morning.

The Blue Sharks, after holding favourites Spain and Uruguay are now third on the table and a win against the Green Falcons will ensure qualification to the knock out phase on their debut.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, opened their 2026 World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Uruguay, then lost 4-0 to Spain in their second game with one point leaving them bottom of Group H, one point behind third-placed Cape Verde ahead of this match.

The Green Falcons will however qualify for the knockout round as Group H runners-up should they beat Cape Verde, and Uruguay fail to overcome Spain in the section’s other game.

But defeat or draw to Cape Verde means elimination for the Green Falcons.

For Cape Verde to qualify for the knockout round as Group H runners-up, they need to win over Saudi Arabia, and a victory for Spain against Uruguay, but fourth spot in the group would be their fate if they lose to Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay avoid defeat against Spain.

In their group, Uruguay face off against Spain with the South Americans targeting maximum points to reach the round of 32.
