Switzerland overcame Algeria 2-0 in a Round of 32 contest during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup at BC Place Vancouver.

Breel Donald Embolo and Dan Assane Ndoye were on target for the Swiss in either half.

Embolo, who features for French Ligue 1 entity Rennes, gave Switzerland the early lead after 10 minutes.

Nottingham Forest’s Ndoye doubled their lead a minute after restart of play for the second half.

Switzerland will now face either Colombia or Ghana at the round of 16 on the 7th July 2026, in Vancouver.

Colombia takes on Ghana in their Round of 16 game in Kansas.

Switzerland joins the Round of 16 stage, where there are other successful countries such as Portugal, Spain, Belgium, England, Mexico, France, Canada, Paraguay, Brazil, Norway and Morocco.

Several African countries have not succeeded past the Round of 32. Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), South Africa and the Ivory Coast all lost their respective games.

South Africa lost 1-0 to Canada, Senegal fell 3-2 to Belgium (after extra time), Norway eliminated Ivory Coast 2-1, and England recovered from a goal down to beat DR Congo 2-1.

Final Round of 32 games:

The Round of 32 concludes on 3rd July 2026 with three matches.

Argentina face Cape Verde in Miami; Australia tussles against Egypt in Arlington, and Colombia play Ghana in Kansas City.
