• Game 4: Uganda W v Hong Kong W
  • RESULT: Uganda 115/8 beat Hong Kong China 114/7 by 2 wickets

Victoria Pearls managed to pick up their third win at the Capricorn Series against Hong Kong China, a nervy two-wicket win but enough to get them over the line.

Uganda continued with their trend of winning the toss and electing to field first. Sarah Walaza (2/22) and Irene Mutonyi (2/22), the opening bowling duo, picked up four wickets, but it’s the strict lines of Malisa Ariokot, who bowled three overs and gave away only 13 runs, that slowed down Hong Kong China.

Asumin Akurut (1/22) picked the only other wicket, with the other being field dismissals from a Ugandan side that has greatly improved their agility in the field. Hong Kong China finished on a modest 114.

In the run chase, Janet Mbabazi departed quickly, but Stephanie Nampiina (20) and Proscovia Alako (14) repaired the damage. The middle order, led by Rita Musamali (22), chipped away at the total, but the regular fall of wickets left closing out the game to the tail. Asumin Akurut (10) managed to soak up the pressure and finish the job to earn the Victoria Pearls their third win of the series out of four games.

A win of proportional margins but one that the Victoria Pearls will take; however, the script for the Victoria Pearls doesn’t seem like it will be changing, especially when it comes to throwing the first punch.

The Victoria Pearls posted their highest total of the series when they batted first, but that was after they were asked to bat first rather than it coming out of their own conviction. They still have two games left in the series against hosts Namibia and their fellow East African neighbours Tanzania.
