Matchday 22 of the 2026 Uganda Handball Super League delivered a day of contrasting fortunes at Kampala’s Old Kampala Hall on Saturday, August 8, with three women’s league fixtures producing high-scoring performances, commanding second-half displays and important wins for Prisons HC, UPDF HC and Police HC.
The three matches, played at 9:00 am, 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm respectively, produced a combined 189 goals, underlining the attacking quality on display throughout the day.
Police HC opened the day with the biggest win, overwhelming Mak Queens 57-23, before Prisons HC defeated Wananchi HC 44-25 and UPDF HC completed the day with a 38-27 victory over Makerere University HC.
The opening fixture saw Police HC establish their authority early against Mak Queens, turning a nine-goal half-time advantage into a commanding 34-goal victory.
Police went into the interval leading 26-17, having already created the platform for what would become the biggest winning margin of the day. They then accelerated after the break, adding another 31 goals while restricting Mak Queens to just six.
Police’s attacking effort was led by Miriam Ankunda, who scored 17 goals, while Michelle Ayebale contributed 12. Hilda Mary Abangit was Mak Queens’ leading scorer with 12 goals, while several other Police players also made significant contributions, including Daphine Adong with seven and Diana Nakamya with six.
Mak Queens were competitive enough during the opening 30 minutes to score 17 goals, but their attacking output collapsed in the second half as Police tightened their grip on the game.
For Police, the 57-goal haul was the day’s highest team score and provided a powerful statement at the start of Match Day 22.
The second game of the day saw Prisons HC produce another emphatic performance, beating Wananchi HC 44-25.
Prisons were already firmly in control at half-time, leading 22-12. Rather than allowing Wananchi back into the contest, they maintained their intensity after the interval, scoring another 22 goals to complete a comfortable 19-goal victory.
Kalsum Abiria was the standout attacking performer for Prisons, finishing with 15 goals. She was supported by Aisha Namajja, who scored 11, while Claire Tabingwa added 10. Priscillah Aber also made an important contribution with eight goals.
Wananchi’s leading scorers included Petra Prisca Amera, who scored seven, and Rahmah Nassali, who added one, while the team also received contributions from several other players.
The match demonstrated Prisons’ ability to combine sustained scoring with control of the contest. Their 22-goal output in each half meant there was no significant drop-off in attacking production, while Wananchi were unable to match that consistency.
The final game produced another high-scoring victory, with UPDF HC defeating Makerere University HC 38-27.
Unlike the first two fixtures, this encounter remained considerably tighter during the opening half. UPDF went into the break with a narrow 15-13 advantage, leaving Makerere within touching distance after 30 minutes.
UPDF found another level offensively, scoring 23 goals in the second half while Makerere managed 14. That second-half surge transformed a two-goal lead into an 11-goal victory.
Shamim Nakajja led UPDF’s scoring with 14 goals, while Esther Tiko added 11 and Hadijah Nakiria scored 10. UPDF also received useful contributions from Shamim Parumu with six and Eunice Oyella with four.
Makerere’s response was led by Mary Kemigisha, who scored four, while several other players contributed to their 27-goal total.
The result highlighted UPDF’s ability to adjust and improve after a closely contested first half. Their 23-goal second-half explosion was decisive and ensured Makerere could not sustain the challenge they had mounted before the break.
Across the three fixtures, the winning teams scored 139 goals, while the losing sides managed 75.
For Police, Prisons and UPDF, the day ended with convincing victories. For Mak Queens, Wananchi and Makerere University, the challenge now will be to respond from difficult defeats and turn the lessons from Match Day 22 into stronger performances in their next outings.
