Fufa has confirmed a two-minute tribute in honour of David Owori in the first SC Villa match since the late right back’s tragic death.
Owori was murdered by thugs near his home as he returned from training on Tuesday with his death confirmed hours later at Case Clinic in Kampala.
SC Villa lock horns with Maroons in the second leg of the Fufa Super 8 quarter final at Hamz stadium Nakivubo on Tuesday with the match tied at 1-1 from the reverse fixture.
Fufa competitions director Shwan Mubiru stated that two minutes in honour of Owori will be celebrated with the match referee to stop the game in the 15th minute, the deceased’s shirt number.
“In honour of the late Captain David Owor, the Centre Referee shall stop play at the 15th minute of the match for a two-minute tribute as follows,” stated Mubiru
“(1) One (1) minute of silence in memory of Captain David Owori.
“(2) One (1) minute of applause in celebration of his life and contribution to football. Play shall resume immediately after the tribute.”
Owori’s death sent shockwaves in the football fraternity and Ugandans at large and thankfully, Police has so far got a breakthrough in arresting suspects involved in the actions that took away Owori’s life at just 28.
SC Villa have since retired jersey no. 15 which Owori donned during his five and half years at the club over two spells.
