St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende smiled to the gold medal in the boys’ football competition at the 2026 FEASSA Games hosted in Morogoro, Tanzania.

The record FEASSA football champions held their nerves to beat hosts Morogoro SS 2-1 at the Jamhuri stadium before a capacity crowd that included the St Mary’s Kitende director Dr Lawrence Mulindwa.

Isaac Tibenkana gave Kitende the lead in the 38th minute. Leonard Kigoye scored past his own goalkeeper Denis Mugerwa for Morogoro S.S equalizer.

Jordan Tugume beat goalkeeper Felix Ezekiel as Kitende’s lead was restored.

Morogoro S.S completed the game with two players less after violent conduct.

Vincent Rashidi and Emil Maulidi were sent off by Rwandese referee Remy Victor in the 54th and 80th minutes respectively.

“It was a fight well fought, a journey well moved. I salute every party involved; from the players, coaches, administrators, other support staff and the fans,” Zzungu, the head coach remarked.

St Mary’s Kitende also won gold in Netball and Basketball (girls) to add to the bulk of gold medals for team Uganda in Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Scrabble, Chess and others.

The FEASSA 2026 Games theme was “Nurturing Sports Talent”.

Hosts Tanzania were joined by teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Burundi in the different sporting disciplines.

The 2027 edition will be hosted by Kigali, Rwanda.
