Uganda U-20 National Football Team, Hippos, has been drawn in Group B at the forthcoming CECAFA U-20 (AFCON U-20 Qualifiers) due in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 15th to 25th September 2026.
The Hippos will face Kenya and Burundi opposition as they vie to qualify to the first knockout phase, the quarterfinals.
Group A has hosts Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda. South Sudan, Sudan and Djibouti are in Group C.
The two best teams in each group will qualify to the quarterfinals alongside the best two third-placed sides.
Semifinals and finals will follow suit. The two finalists shall progress to the AFCON U-20 championship.
Tanzania are the defending champions after defeating Kenya 2-1 in the final during the 2024 Zonal qualifiers held at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
According to Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Manager, only Eritrea and Somalia will miss out on the championship.
