The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup is just under a year from getting underway in Brazil, and the excitement continues to build ahead of the prestigious tournament.
As the anticipation continues to grow, this is some of the information that you must keep yourself abreast of.
First tournament in South America
For the first time, the tournament will be staged in South America with Brazil being the host. Eight stadiums will be used for the tournament, all of which hosted matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup
The eight host cities include: Rio de Janeiro at the iconic Estadio do Maracana, where the opening and final matches will be held.
In Brasilia, games will be played at the Arena BRB Mane Garrincha. The other cities include: Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Salvador and Recife.
32 Teams to Compete
For the second and last time, a total of 32 teams will feature in the 2027 edition before the tournament expands to 48 teams in 2031.
So far, 18 teams including the hosts Brazil have confirmed their places already and these include nations from Asia (Australia, China, Japan, North Korea, Philippines and South Korea), Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Malawi and Cameroon), South America (Brazil, Argentina and Colombia), Europe (Denmark, France, Spain and Germany).
Group Stage Draw
The final draw will take place on 11 December 2026 at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro.
The selected Venue will showcase Brazil’s rich artistic heritage, creativity, imagination and expression that have long characterised the country’s relationship with football.
At the iconic MAM Rio, where artistic vision is displayed and celebrated daily, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 will honour the enduring concept of futebol arte and the players who epitomise it on the pitch.
The connection between the beautiful game and art is also evident in the tournament’s branding, which features artwork created by female Brazilian artists for each Host City.
