On 5th September 2024, the world woke up in shock as Uganda’s female star athlete Rebecca Chelengat OLY lost her dear life after succumbing to burns inflicted by her husband during a domestic brawl.
Chelengat had just returned home after the Olympic Games in Paris, France, where she competed gallantly in the marathon.
The sports fraternity, general community and civil groups in unison vehemently condemned this brutal attack on humanity.
To date, campaigns against Gender Based Violence still take center stage across the divide.
Against this background, the organisers of the annual Kids of Africa run have, for the second year running, fronted the message in bold as the 14th edition comes knocking on Sunday, 13th September 2026 at Kids Pioneer Primary School in Bugiri- Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council.
This year’s launch was officially held at the lavish gardens of Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Thursday, 3rd September 2026.
Previous causes have focused on health and education dockets.
“This run was inaugurated in 2011, and it had over 300 runners of all ages. In 2012, there were over 500 runners; by 2017, we had 780; and by 2018 we had 900 participants, and in 2022 we had 650 due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Tage Budolfsen, founder of Kids of Africa Swiss Village.
The run will involve the half marathon (21Km), 10km and 5km with over 1000 participants expected to attend and participate.
“Last year, 832 participants were attracted, and the event is growing bigger and better, and the proceeds support awareness of menstrual health and the production of reusable Menstrual Pad to the girl Child within community schools that we previously supported with Modern toilets, all in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, in previous years,” Budolfsen adds.
Every finisher is guaranteed a medal with timed results for the 21 KM (above 18 years), 10 KM (13-17, 18-49, 50+) and 5KM (Under 12, 13-17, 18-49 and 50+).
Sponsorship bandwagon:
There are several sponsors that have embarked on this edition to support the girl Child and they include; Sheraton Hotel, MEMPROW GIRL’S NETWORK, Kisubi Hospital, Sai Pali institute of Science and Technology, Roko Construction, I&M Bank, Flora Events, Umoja women group, Eden Fitness Gym, Divine Esthetics, Swans Group club, Miss Tourism Teso, SEMBEZA Africa, CORSU, Chrysm Digital Solutions and Yako Bank that has contributed 7million towards the cause.

There are different points to register from, such as Kids of Africa Bwerenga Village (Entebbe), Total Namasuba 2 – Entebbe road, Madison Building (Divine Salon – Kawuku and Abaita Ababiri branches), as well as online registration via www.kidsofafrica-run.com website.
The starting point will be from Kids Pioneer Primary School Bugiri- Kisubi Katabi Town Council.
Tickets cost Ug.Shs 30,000 per individual.
