Jersey completed a successful tour of Uganda with a 59-run victory over Uganda Select XI at the Lakeside Oval in Entebbe on Sunday.
The visitors followed Saturday’s nine-wicket win with another strong performance, posting 193 for nine before bowling Uganda out for 134 in 41.3 overs.
Uganda Select XI won the toss and elected to bowl, but Jersey recovered from early setbacks to set a competitive target of 194.
William Perchard fell for a duck in the opening over, while Julius Sumerauer managed four runs before being trapped leg before wicket by Ivan Baidhu.
Zak Tribe and Jonty Jenner steadied the innings, with Tribe scoring 28 off 35 balls before falling to Musa Majid Ramathan. Jenner added 44 off 62 deliveries, hitting four fours and two sixes, before Fahad Mutagana dismissed him.
Jersey slipped to 100 for six after Jenner’s departure, with Charlie Brennan scoring 12 and Benjamin Ward managing three.
Musa led Uganda’s bowling attack with four wickets for 44 runs in 10 overs, while Bilal Hassan took two for 33. Baidhu and Mutagana claimed a wicket each.
However, Josh Lawrenson and Harrison Carlyon helped Jersey recover. Lawrenson made 29 off 71 balls, while Carlyon top-scored with 49 from 80 deliveries, including four fours.
Lawrenson fell with the score at 161, and Scott Van Breda was run out for two. Carlyon departed at 186 for nine, leaving Jake Dunford unbeaten on eight and George Richardson on two as Jersey finished on 193 for nine in 50 overs. Extras contributed 12 runs.
Uganda’s reply got off to a poor start when Ronald Lutaaya fell for four in the first over, caught behind off Julius Sumerauer.
Steven Wabwose made 16 before falling to Richardson, while Mutagana scored 24 off 46 balls before Benjamin Ward removed him.
Uganda slipped to 59 for four when Edwin Nuwagaba was dismissed for a duck, leaving the hosts struggling to keep pace with the target.
Robert Owilli offered resistance with 53 off 99 balls, hitting one four, but wickets continued to fall around him.
Paul Mulongo scored 13 before Carlyon dismissed him, while Christopher Kidega made four and Munir Ismail three.
Ward finished with five wickets for 17 runs in 9.3 overs, including four maidens, to lead Jersey’s attack. Toby Britton took two for 27, while Sumerauer, Richardson and Carlyon claimed a wicket each.
Owilli’s dismissal, caught behind off Britton at 129, left Uganda with little hope of recovery. Musa Majid Ramathan fell for one before Ward dismissed Baidhu for one to end the innings at 134.
Bilal Hassan remained unbeaten on six as Uganda fell 59 runs short.
The result completed Jersey’s double over Uganda Select XI following Saturday’s nine-wicket victory.
