KCCA Women FC will be chasing the top spot in the 2026/27 FUFA Women Super League when they host Jinja United WFC at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Thursday.

The Kasasiro Girls sit fifth with five points from three matches and know a victory would take them to eight points, temporarily lifting them to the top of the table before the other teams return to action.

KCCA have made a solid start to the 2026/27 campaign, opening with a 3-0 victory over league debutants URA Ladies FC before settling for goalless draws against St Noa Girls Zana FC and Makerere University WFC.

While the two draws have slowed their progress, KCCA have remained difficult to break down. They are one of only two teams yet to concede a goal this season, alongside St Noa Girls.

Gloria Namakula, popularly known as Zaza, believes their defensive strength comes from the entire team rather than the goalkeeper alone. She has also credited good communication and the players’ willingness to follow instructions from the technical team.

“We started the season very well with three wins. It has not been only the goalkeeper, but it has been the whole team. We’ve been communicating very well,” Namakula said.

She added that the players had worked hard to put their coaches’ instructions into practice, even as they continue adjusting to the demands of the new season.

“We’ve been listening to our coaches; whatever they have done, they have told us to do on the pitch. We’ve tried and managed to do them. It’s a new team in the league, and we are focusing on it,” she said.

For Namakula, Thursday’s encounter presents an opportunity to make up for the points dropped in their previous two matches and get their campaign moving again.

“We are aiming for good results because we have managed to do two draws that are affecting our run. So this is going to be a stepping stone if we win the game with Jinja,” she said.

She also urged supporters to turn up at Lugogo and cheer the team on as they seek maximum points.

“All our fans, come and support us, come and cheer us for the KCCA Women’s Football Club and KCCA FC at large,” Namakula added.

Head coach Hamuza Lutalo is confident his players can deliver, but he has warned them against taking Jinja United lightly despite their difficult start to life in the top flight.

“The team is new and has not yet won a game. Jinja United is not a weak side since they managed to come into the league, but they are a stubborn side,” Lutalo said.

The coach admits there is pressure to win, particularly after back-to-back draws, but believes his side is ready for the challenge. The technical team has also worked on improving the forward line after KCCA failed to score in their last two outings.

“The pressure is on, but we have done enough to win the game. We have tried to sharpen our forward line so that we can score a goal and want to promise our fans that we are going to win,” he said.

KCCA will need that improvement in front of goal if they are to turn their strong defensive record into another victory. Their opening-day win over URA showed what they can do going forward, but Thursday offers another test of their ability to convert chances.

Jinja United, meanwhile, arrive at Lugogo desperate to get their season going. The newcomers are bottom of the 12-team table with no points from three matches, having lost all their opening fixtures.

They began with a 3-0 defeat away to Kawempe Muslim LFC on September 19 before losing 2-1 to She Corporate FC in Iganga on September 26. Their latest setback was a 3-0 loss to St Noa Girls Zana FC on October 18.

Jinja have scored only one goal and conceded eight, leaving them with a goal difference of minus seven. Patricia Babirye scored their lone goal of the campaign so far in the defeat to She Corporate.

Despite their poor run, Jinja will see Thursday’s match as a chance to claim their first points and climb off the bottom of the table. A win would take them above Amus College WFC.

KCCA, however, have their sights set much higher. Three points would take them to eight and give them a temporary place at the summit, while a draw would leave them fifth before the remaining teams play their Matchday Four fixtures.

The match will also form part of a football double-header at Lugogo. KCCA Women FC face Jinja United at 4pm before KCCA FC take on UPDF FC in the Uganda Premier League at 7pm.

The other women’s league fixtures begin on Friday, October 23, when Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC host She Corporate FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, at 4pm.

On Saturday, October 24, She Maroons FC welcome St Noa Girls Zana FC at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, while Amus College WFC host Kawempe Muslim LFC at Amus Stadium, Bukedea. Both matches kick off at 4pm.

Sunday’s programme features URA Ladies FC against Rines SS WFC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, and Makerere University WFC against Lady Doves FC at Nsibirwa Ground, Makerere. Both matches are scheduled for 4pm.
