Men’s 5000m – Samsung Diamond League Meet Zurich

He was left with lots to ponder after finishing last in the men’s 5000m final, just a week after suffering a blow in the 10000m at the London Olympics. Perhaps, he lacked the right shape of mind. But after the misfortune, Ugandan long distance runner Moses Kipsiro will step on track for the 12 and a half laps at the Samsung Diamond League Meet this evening in Zurich, Switzerland.
Yes Mo Farah, the double Olympic champion is out but Kipsiro, the 2011 All Africa gold medalist, will meet again with USA’s Bernard Lagat and Rupp Galen who beat him at the Olympic stadium.
Galen won silver in the 25-lap race while Lagat beat Kipsiro to settle for silver at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany three years ago. Whereas world and Olympic record holder Kenenisa Bekele is getting off the scene, his brother Tariku Bekele will not give Kipsiro breathing space.
So will be Olympic silver medalist Dejen Gebremeskel. The Ethiopian has already amassed eight points and tops this year’s Diamond League rankings.
The most renowned athletics meeting of the world will once again be staged in front of 25 000 fans at Letzigrund Stadium. Tickets have already been sold out.
