Top lady golfers set for Castle Lite Entebbe Ladies Open

Top Entebbe lady golfer Irene Nakalembe, will face a stiff challenge as she tries to dethrone her club mate and defending champion Maxi Byenkya at this week’s second edition of the Castle Lite Entebbe Ladies Open golf championship that starts on Friday and ends on Saturday at splendid 18 hole golf course.

Nakalembe, will have to face a strong field if she is to attain her goal at this prestigious tournament that has attracted lady golfers from Rwanda, but standing in her path will be Uganda’s lady golfer of the year Flavia Namakula others who will following have tracks include Eva Magala, Jasper Kamukama, Kate Kabenge, Irene Nambi,Petra Nalwoga,Gloria Mbaguta, Monica Ntege and many more.

As a tradition started by Entebbe Club last year, this event is now a permanent fixture on the Club’s calendar that will fall the weekend prior to the International Women’s Day every year.

The tournament which is the biggest tournament held outside Kampala and the biggest ladies event after the Uganda Ladies Golf Open is being sponsored by Castle Lite lager, Rwenzori Premium Water and Spedag Interfrieght Logistics who have all together injected over 30 million shillings into hosting the tournament.

The tournament has also been endorsed by the Uganda Ladies Golf Union who have provided transport for all  Kampala based ladies for the two day tournament in Entebbe. Lady players are expected from Kigali Golf Club, Mbarara Sports Club, Jinja Club and Kinyara among others.

The men’s subsidiary event will take place on day two Saturday. On this occasion the men will be tee off from the ladies tee boxes. The men are expected to show their egos by “burning the course” and playing unders as it is expected that the course shall be made shorter for them.

All proceeds of the tournament are going towards the development of Ladies golf at Entebbe Club. The mode of play is medal.
