Uganda National Golf Team

Overview:

The Victoria Cup is an annual golf tournament between the national teams of Uganda and Kenya. The 2023 edition was not held after a request from Kenya to postpone the event.

Victoria Cup 2023:

  • 31st January 2024 – Official practice round & flag raising ceremony
  • 1st – 3rd February 2024 – Playing days
  • 3rd February 2024 – Closing Ceremony
  • Venue: Uganda Golf Club, Kampala

The long awaited 2023 Victoria cup played between Uganda and Kenya will tee off on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kampala.

This follows the official practice round, flag-raising and opening ceremonies the previous evening.

“We are determined to flag our national flag high. We shall play with aggression. We are at home and have everything to play for” Uganda’s skipper Joseph Cwinya-ai stated.

Round one games will have foursomes format with the opening game at 7:45 am between Uganda’s captain Joseph Cwinya-ai and Andrew Ssekibejja against the Kenyan duo of Michael Karanga and Elvis Muigua.

At 8:00 am; Joseph Kasozi will play with Amon Bwambale (Uganda) against the vastly experienced Dennis Maara and John Lejirma.

The third match will be at 8:15 AM between Titus Okwong and Elton Thembo (Uganda); up against Sammy Mulama and Krisch Beiju.

The final match drives off at 8:30 AM when the pair of Ibrahim Bagalana and Ibrahim Ssemakula face Adel Balala and Ebill Omollo.

Round two on the same day will see the Four balls, better ball competition.

Other rounds:

On Friday, 2nd February 2024 shall be round three (Foursomes) before round four on the same day for the four balls (better ball).

Round five will have the singles’ competition as well as the subsidiary event (stableford) before the closing ceremony.

Team Uganda is coached by a female golf professional Flavia Namakula.

About the Victoria Cup:

The Victoria Cup is an annual golf tournament between the national teams of Uganda and Kenya.

In 2022, the tournament returned after a two-year absence at Limuru club in Nairobi, Kenya with Kenya winning the tournament.

The 2023 edition was not held after a request from Kenya to postpone the event.
