Mbarara City FC began the second on an impressive note, defeating Express FC with a 3-1 victory.

In the game played at Kakyeka Stadium, the Ankole Lions claimed all three points thanks to a good performance on the day.

Gangly forward Henry Kitegenyi scored twice while Joshua Akandwanaho added the other goal for the home side.

The consolation goal for visiting Express FC came from midfielder Hussein Ssenoga.

Mbarara City opened the scores in the 31st minute through Kitegenyi who converted from the spot after Sadat Nsubuga was fouled in the box. Express were able to level matters five minutes later through Ssenoga.

However, the Ankole Lions were able to regain their lead at the stroke of halftime with Akandwanaho tapping home from a rebound after goalkeeperAbubaker Yunus had saved Nsubuga’s initial effort.

Kitegenyi rattled the crossbar in the second half before he eventually put the icing on the cake with a stoppage-time half volley.

The result takes Mbarara City to tenth place on the table with 20 points while Express remain stationed in sixth position on 25 points.
