Namuwongo Blazers registered a 60-54 victory against City Oilers in the National Basketball League encounter at Lugogo Arena on Friday night.

The Blazers pulled the hand break to City Oilers’ winning run who lost their first game in the six played thus far in the 2023-24 NBL campaign.

Namuwongo Blazers managed a one-point lead 18-17 at the end of the first period. The fans turned up in full voice rallying their teams to keep going in the tight duel.

The Oilers made an 8-0 run at the start of the second quarter before Innocent Ochera breathed life into the Blazers camp with one from downtown.

At halftime, it was an eight-point lead for City Oilers who limited the Blazers to only 10 points, the former went five minutes without a basket.

With seven minutes to play in the third quarter, the Blazers suffered a big blow after their highest scorer (at the time) Joseph Chuma committed his fourth foul and had to be pulled out of the game.

The third quarter witnessed low offensive quality as none of the sides scored a double-digit (8-6) but still, the Blazers were trailing by six.

At the start of the final quarter, Micheal Makiadi and Paul Odongo levelled the game 42 a piece with two successive shots from downtown.

With 49 seconds to play, Peter Cheng made a big three-point shot to create a six-point lead that was guarded till the final whistle of the game.

Chuma scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Odong and Cheng added 12 points each while Makiadi was thrilling in the paint commanding a whooping 17 rebounds.

On the other hand, City Oulers hardly had a good shooting day as only Titus Lual (13 ) and Mer Maker (11) scored in double figures.
