Overview:
The Championship of African Nations (CHAN) is played by players who feature in the respective domestic leagues on the African continent.
CHAN 2024 (Group B):
- Burkina Faso 1-2 Madagascar
- Central African Republic 0-0 Tanzania
Islanders Madagascar qualified for the quarter-finals, joining CHAN 2024 co-hosts Tanzania from Group B.
Madagascar overcame Burkina Faso 2-1 at the Benjamin Mkapa national stadium, Dar-es-Salaam city on Saturday evening.
Goals from Fenohasina Razafimaro and Cliver Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa (penalty) spurred Madagascar to victory.
Razafimaro, a midfielder featuring at Elgeco Plus put Madagascar ahead as early as the 7th minute.
The joy was short lived when Sporting Cascades’ Souleymane Sangare leveled for the Burkinables in the 25th minute.
The opening half ended all-square before the two teams battled in the final stanza.
Rafanomezantsoa of CFFA football club then scored a penalty on the hour mark to restore Madagascar’s lead that they jealously held onto and emerge with maximum points.

Madagascar finished with 7 points same as Mauritania but the former has a superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, co-hosts Tanzania maintained their unbeaten run at the championship after a goal-less stalemate with Central African Republic.
Tanzania thus completes the group phase top of the group with 10 points.
Action at the CHAN 2024 continues in group A with a double header in Nairobi city on Sunday, 17th August 2025.
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) tussles against Morocco at Nyayo National Stadium whilst Zambia will play co-hosts Kenya at the Moi international sports centre.

Now in the 8th edition, the tournament is being played in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
This is the first time that three countries are co-hosting the CHAN tournament, a precursor to the AFCON 2027 championship that will also be staged in East Africa.
