JKL Lady Dolphins took a 2-1 lead in the National Basketball League finals as the JT Lady Jaguars collapsed in the fourth quarter.

JKL Lady Dolphins secured a 77-59 victory against JT Lady Jaguars in the NBL Finals at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Tuesday.

Despite having a good start to the game, the Lady Dolphins’ zonal defence gave the Kira-based side a hard time as they lost their second successive game.

In the first quarter, the Lady Dolphins’ high pick and roll didn’t go well as the Lady Jaguars created a six-point (24-18) lead at the end of the period.

The Lady Dolphins struggled to meet the Lady Jaguars’ quick transitional game before Becky Keren Longom came off the bench to improve the reigning champions’ defence.

Going into the halftime break, the Lady Dolphins took a slim one-point (36-35) lead.

Coming from the locker rooms, the Lady Jaguars improved their defence as they went into the final quarter with a one-point (52-51) deficit.

In the final quarter, experience and mentality gave the Lady Dolphins the edge as the Lady Jaguars struggled on offence and also failed to make the right decisions.

With an 8-0 run into the fourth quarter, the Lady Jaguars’ gaffer, Sudi Ulanga, was forced to call for a timeout. However, despite the team talk, the Jaguars were limited to only eight points as they trailed by 18 points.

Hope Akello (17 points), Flavia Oketcho (13 points), Evelyn Nakiyinji (12 points) and Brenda Ekone (11 points) led the Lady Dolphins scoreboard in double digits.

On the other hand, only Rhoda Nagitta (15 points) and Shakirah Nanvubya (13 points) scored double digits for the Lady Jaguars.
