Peter Obleng showed up for the assignment in Game 3 of the National Basketball League Playoff Finals as Namuwongo Blazers pulled back one.
Obleng powered to 20 points and nine rebounds as the Blazers secured the much-needed victory in the best-of-seven series.
Nam Blazers secured a well-deserved 80-70 victory against City Oilers in the NBL Playoff final at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Tuesday.
Tonny Drileba returned to the roster after missing the first two games. His return improved the communication defensively and also directed offense much better.
It was an end-to-end encounter as both sides tied 24-24 at the end of the opening period.
The Blazers made a few turnovers, limiting them from having a command in the toe-to-toe encounter as City Oilers took a two-point (42-44) lead into the halftime break.
Coming from the locker rooms, the Blazers capitalised on defence, switching on screens and making timely blocks.
With 4:06 on the clock, Peter Obleng’s back-to-back conversions created an eight-point lead, which was the biggest till that point.
Kurt Curry’s easy jumpshot concluded the period as the Oilers trailed by three points at the end of the third period.
It was a heated-up final quarter but the Blazers played calmly, unlike the first two games, thus making better decisions and ball distribution.
The Blazers hung in and took home a 10-point victory, giving their loud crowd a reason to chant and celebrate vigorously.
Arthur Wanyoto (18 points) and Anthony Chukwubuka Chukwurah (14 points) joined Obleng in the double digits.
On the other hand, Mer Maker (20 points), Kurt Wegscheider (18 points) and Jordan Bowie Chad (17 points) scored in double figures for the City Oilers.
