Uganda’s FM Harold Wanyama outwitted Nigeria’s CM Fawole John Oyeyemi (2214) after a long battle in the seventh round of the ongoing Africa Individual Chess Championship in Namibia.

The win propelled Wanyama back to third spot in the standings with two rounds to spare.

It however put him in line to face the only Grandmaster at the event, Egypt’s Adley Ahmed in the eighth round scheduled for Sunday.

Early pace setter, Egypt’s IM Ali Farahat suffered his first loss in the event at the hands of South Africa’s IM Ken Solomon.

The two IMs are tying at the top of the standings table with 5.5 points each out of 7.

Wanyama closely follows with 5 points alongside Adley and  Zambia’s Jere Daniel.

The last two final rounds are poised to be interesting and decisive as it has remained tight and highly competitive at the top with no clear favorite.
