The 2015 seems to be getting tough for Shamim Bangi who is still struggling to replicate her 2014 badminton season that saw her reach nine quarter finals out of nine outings.

But despite the poor form that has seen the 21-year old lose both twice at the Estonian International and Sweden Masters, Bangi has something to smile about.

Her world ranking improved four places, from 115th to 111th with 15070 points, she has maintained third place on the continent and number one in the East and Central region.

“The results on court are not the best,” Bangi told a www.monitor.co.ug  last week.

“But the priority is to try and improve my ranking, and I can say am on the right track,” she added.

The reigning Uganda Sports Press Association Female Badminton player of the year has so far lost to Belgian Flore Vandenhoucke 2-0 (21-14, 21-6) in the first round of the Estonian International.

She was made to work hard in the Sweden Masters but still lost to Sashina Vignes Waran in straight sets 21-8, 21-13.

“Have lost to players who are well familiar with the conditions were playing in, it’s too cold here (Estonian and Sweden), though that has not stopped me from giving my best,” she added.

Bangi’s last tournament will be in Iceland starting this Friday before she returns to start preparations for the Ugandan International slated for February 19-22.
