Africa’s number one badminton player Edwin Ekiring has registered for the Ugandan International, the only continental championship missing in his trophy Cabin.

Ekiring has won all the big tournaments on the continents apart from Botswana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria and Zambia.

This will be his first Ugandan International since 2011, but why does he falter at the home turf?

“I always have so many distractions when I come for the Ugandan International,” Ekiring told Kawowo Sports.

There people who have not seen me for long and when I come around everyone wants to have a glimpse. Not bothered that I am here to compete, that takes the concentration away from me. But I badly want to win the Ugandan International there is not questions about it,

Ekiring will be banking on his 2014 form that saw him won titles in Nigeria, and Zambia and silver in South Africa.

At the beginning of this year has faced a first round exit at the Estonian International before withdrawing from the Swedish Masters and Iceland International.

“I withdrew from those two tournaments because I needed to prepare my body and mind for the Ugandan International,” he said.

Ekiring will be seeded eighth at the February 19-22 championship that has players coming from all over Europe, Asia and Africa.
