Loughborough Lightening 43-45 Bath

Loughborough Lightning narrowly missed out on beating Team Bath in their latest Netball Super league match.

In front of a 1,800 crowd at the Sports Training Village in Bath, the Loughborough Lightning girls got off to a strong start with a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Loughborough’s trio of African imports, South Africa captain Maryka Holtzhausen and defender Phemza Maweni and Ugandan Peace Proscovia proved the difference between the sides, as the girls found their teammates with ease while Rose Allison was kept quiet at the other end of the court.

A turnover from player of the match Francis saw Team Bath go into half time with a score of 23-21.

Bath clung onto their two-goal margin for the opening ten minutes of the third quarter.

With some good shooting from Team Bath, the Loughborough Lightning girls went down 37-31 by the end of the third quarter.

With seven minutes to go, Loughborough Lightning clawed their way back into the match, showing their grit and determination which had fans on the edge of their seats.

Team Bath only just managed to steal the win from Loughborough Lightning with a final score of 45-43.

Coach Karen Atkinson’s comments after the match:

We are really disappointed to have lost this game when we were more than capable of taking the win. We started well but became too passive on both attack and defence in the second and third quarters. We turned over a lot of ball and if we have capitalised on one or two more of our turnovers it could have been a different outcome.
