Uganda Premier League side Lugazi FC have officially announced the appointment of tactician Abbey Kikomeko Bogere as their new head coach.
The highly respected tactician arrives at the Lugazi Stadium on an immediate two-year contract, filling a crucial leadership void as the club targets a major shift from top-flight survival to title contention.
Kikomeko, popularly known in Ugandan football circles as Capello, boasts an impressive CV at the pinnacle of the local game.
He famously guided BUL FC to consecutive FUFA Super 8 trophies in 2023 and 2024, alongside anchoring them to a historic second-place finish during the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season.
Speaking directly to the club’s media following his unveiling, a motivated Kikomeko made it clear that he isn’t joining The Leaders just to make up the numbers.
”I feel excited after being appointed the Lugazi FC head coach,” Kikomeko stated.
“It’s a good club with good facilities, and very organized. I have been watching the team play and seeing its organization, and this enticed me to take up the opportunity.”
Reflecting on the club’s trajectory ahead of their third consecutive season in the top division, the CAF A licensed coach firmly dismissed any talks of a relegation scrap.
“My policy is always to compete for trophies, and under my regime here, we are going to compete for them. I have not come just to spend my time here”
“Next season will be Lugazi FC’s third campaign in the league. So, it’s no longer new in the top division. Therefore, we are not going to take part in the league just to fight relegation; we are going to compete.”he added.
“I have been tasked to lead this team to good and respectable positions in the league, and I am going to do exactly that. That’s not something difficult to do.”
Beyond his tactical acumen and silverware success, he is highly regarded for his exceptional track record in youth player development.
He famously helped Kirinya–Jinja SS (now Busoga United) secure promotion to the Uganda Premier League in 2016 and coached Jinja Secondary School to the prestigious Copa Coca-Cola title in 2017. He also enjoyed a notable coaching stint with Mbale Heroes.
In the official club statement, Lugazi FC noted that Kikomeko’s unique blend of leadership qualities, extensive elite-level experience and dedication to nurturing young talent made him the absolute standout choice to spearhead the next phase of the club’s journey.
While Kikomeko assumes his duties on the training ground immediately, Lugazi FC confirmed that the names of his supporting backroom staff will be finalised and communicated in due course.
