Uganda U-17 national team suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Somalia at the ongoing CECAFA U-17 Championship in Burundi on Wednesday.

The Cubs fell to Ahmed Farhaman’s strike at Gitega Stadium in the semifinals of the tournament as Sula Mpuga missed a penalty that would have given the Ugandan youngsters some hope.

Uganda will thus take on rivals Kenya (who lost 2-1 to Tanzania) in the third place playoff on Saturday.

Uganda last won the title nine years ago but will now have to finish 3rd at best, with a win against Kenya on Saturday.

Head coach Peter Onen will have to pick up the pieces and tell his boys the value of an extra match at the tourney.

Meanwhile in the other semifinal, goals from Jafar Juma and Kelvin Paul booked Tanzania a place at the finals at the expense of Kenya who had taken the lead through Isaiah Abwal.
