Nine Countries confirm Entry to Uganda International

Nine countries have confirmed their participation in the Uganda International Badminton championship slated February 2-5 in Kampala.

Peru, Turkey, Iran, Portugal, Morocco, Canada, Australia, Switzerland and Austria have confirmed their entries for this major badminton tournament which is the biggest event on the local calendar.

“The number of entrants is increasing by the day and we hope to have a good draw for the tournament,” Simon Mugabi, the tournament director said. “It’s a tournament that the players are looking forward too where they win points to enable qualify for the summer games in London this year.”

Uganda’s onslaughter will be led by Africa’s top badminton player Edwin Ekiring and his compatriot Wilson Tukire before the duo embarks on the Thomas and Uber Cup in Addis Ababa, later next month.

The winners at the tournament will walk away with $600 (about 1.4 million Uganda Shillings) that is in the men’s and singles final.

Peru has entered one entrant,Turkey three,Iran three,Portugal two,Morocco one,Canada  one,Australia two,Switzerland one and Austria one.
