Africa’s top badminton player Edwin Ekiring will be looking for early honours in the New Year when he takes part in the Estonia International that gets underway on Friday in Tallinn.
“I am looking forward to playing in the Estonia International which will be my first tournament in the new year,” Ekiring stated in a e-mail message. “This year is a hectic season for me both at club and national level.”
The Ugandan badminton ace who won a silver medal at the All Africa games is a nominee for the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association sportsman of the year award 2011.
“I will also take part in the Uganda International, but before that I will have to play for my club Amersfoort as I try to win them points to enable them play in the European club championships final,” Ekiring stressed. “I will also take part for team Uganda in the Thomas and Uber Cup in Addis Ababa after the Uganda international.
Ekiring is the first Ugandan athlete to have booked a ticket for himself at this year’s summer Olympics in London he is currently ranked 99 in the world.
