National badminton team in limbo over Thomas Uber Cup tourney

Uganda’s badminton team is in limbo over its trip to the Thomas Uber Cup that takes part on February 22-28 in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia.

“We are still looking for funds to enable the team travel for the tournament which is also a Africa badminton championship,” Simon Mugabi, the national badminton coach said. “We intend to send a team of eight players,but at the moment I can’t confirm that we shall be able to send a team unless we get funding for the team.”

Uganda’s team has Edwin Ekiring,Wilson Tukire,Brian Ssuna and Daniel Mihigo while the women’s team has Shamim Bangi, Margaret Nankabirwa, Rose Nakalya and Daisy Nakalyango.

Ugandan players are just coming off the Uganda International where they where ejected in the second round and they sought points to enable them hit the required standards to qualify for Olympics in London in July.
