In the absence of Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president, Rogers Ddungu, the eight executive members called an urgent press briefing to disassociate themselves from the unconstitutional actions of their president.
UOC first vice president William Blick accuses Ddungu of running UOC as his personal Business and putting the entire sports fraternity at ransom.
“We want to let the public know that Mr. Rogers Dungu has behaved like we didn’t expect him to,” Blick said.
Preparations and participation in the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic games; Much as the UOC executive committee is mandated by its constitution to select competitors and officials in conjunction with the national federations, the executive has not been involved in this process.
“He wants to do everything by him selves as if the executive members are just scarecrows,” Blick commented.
Uganda boxing federation situation;
With all the wrangles surrounding Uganda Amateur boxing Federation (UABF) since 2009 when Ddungu resigned as president and Godfrey Nyakana was legitimately voted into office, the UOC executive committee has never been formally made aware of the ongoing process aimed at resolving the issues within UABF.
Tribunal to handle petition and disciplinary matters;
Ddungu has unilaterally and without the mandate of his executive decided to constitute a tribunal to handle petitions and disciplinary matters.
“The executive committee was mandated by the annual general assembly in Gulu early this year to handle and resolve allegations that arose thereat we as the UOC have duly executed this mandate.”
“The UOC president nether has neither the mandate nor the authority under the UOC constitution to individually appoint a tribunal without the approval of the executive committee,” Blick said.
The executive also had a meeting with state Minister for sports Charles Bakkabulindi, National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary, Jasper Aligawesa, sports commissioners.
“Not that we don’t want to work with Mr. Ddungu, he is our president,” Blick added
