After Uganda put up depressing enactments in March at the T20 World Cup qualifiers, a review meeting was held between top stakeholders, players and the technical cricket wing yesterday. With a purpose to avoid the Dubai circus and misery, a 51-man squad was selected to start training for next February’s World cricket league tourney for a venue yet to be slated.
The players were chosen on the basis of this year’s tournaments’ statistics and last year’s remarkable displays. Only 14 players (cream) of the bulk will make to the final team and national team coach, Martin Suji is in charge of the team. The move only shows how focused Uganda Cricket Association is in looking for the best results.
Uganda beat Namibia by 6 wickets to clinch the Africa Division 1 T20 championships in Kampala last July, hence booking a slot at this year’s World Cup qualifiers in UAE.
But the Davis Karashani-led side failed to replicate the splendid form two months. Uganda beat USA and Oman but Suji’s boys could not last the good days as they finished 14th out of the 16 teams.
