Following the release of first round league fixtures for the 2012/13 season by the Uganda super League (USL) on Monday, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) competitions Committee (FCC) secretary Decolas Kiiza and CEO Edgar Watson have insisted the league won’t start on that date as communicated by USL.
The FCC recently came up with a soccer year calendar showing that the country’s top division league was to commence on the 25th of September something USL defied by releasing the fixture that starts before that
date something that didn’t go down well with FUFA.
“As custodians of the game, we are not going to allow the league start before its scheduled date on our calendar. We have communicated to all super league clubs about that and we stand by our word”, Kiiza told Kawowo sports.
For FUFA CEO, it’s all about the new constitutional amendments as recently discussed by FUFA, USL, Kawaase Mediation committee, National council of Sports and the Ministry of education and FIFA.
The new constitution that will see changes made to the current constitution and also USL incorporate USL as a direct member of FUFA will be promulgated on 18th / August /2012, a week prior to the league’s planned kick off by USL. However, the USL insist that it’s only then that provisions will apply to them.
The wrangles between the two bodies climaxed last season forcing a sanction on the league by FUFA. Many games played under these circumstances were cancelled and replayed something we hope is avoided come next season.
Super league clubs including SC Villa, Express FC and KCC confirmed receiving the FUFA communication
