Uganda’s Tanzania based forward Emma Okwi is optimistic the Cranes can dump out reigning African Champions Zambia and qualify for the 2013 Nations cup in South Africa for the first time in 34 years. “We didn’t expect any easy team in the draw and we’ve always been thinking about this draw ever since we eliminated Congo Brazzaville”, said Okwi.
The former SC Villa striker who netted Uganda’s fourth in the 4-0 win over Congo Brazzaville in the previous round went further to state that Uganda is not afraid of Zambia though it has the team’s respect. “We respect Zambia since they are champions and a good side but we’re not afraid of them”, he concluded. Uganda is set to host the second leg at Namboole on the weekend of 12-14 October but will have to make a trip to Lusaka first between 7-9 September this year.
The two sides last met in a friendly match in Kampala in 2010 sharing the spoils in a one all draw. The winner over two legs will take part in the 26th October draw for group stages.
