They only needed to reach the final in order to be sure of a tenth 7s crown reached beyond the required. Coach Brian Tabaruka’s side MTN Heathens defeated G4S Pirates 30-0 in the Main Cup final of their home leg at Kyadondo ground on Saturday. They triumphed in three of the four legs, effectively burying the failure to win the circuit opener in Entebbe a month ago.
Jonathan Onen scored four tries to add to touchdowns from Arthur Mukama, Brian Kikawa and Allan Otim as Heathens made five out of seven titles. Pirates had eliminated Phillip Wokorach’s Toyota Buffaloes 19-12 in the semifinals to reach their first season 7s final.
This time, it went into sudden death after 10-all tie at the end of regulation time where Kikawa broke Kobs’ hearts. The only consolation for Kobs came in the shape of Justin Kimono. The wing finished as top try scorer and overall Most Valuable Player (MVP) and bagged Shs1.1m.
